New chief for Homalco

Homalco First Nation has a new chief after the band held elections on Oct. 23.

Darren Blaney was running against incumbent chief Mary Ann Enevoldsen.

Blaney was running on a platform of financial accountability as well as supporting youth, elders, culture and healing.

He is an artist and is married to North Island-Powell River MP Rachel Blaney.

A swearing in ceremony for the nation’s new leadership is expected to happen imminently.
