New Conservation Partnership for the South Coast of British Columbia
The Naut’sa mawt Tribal Council (NmTC), TFN Construction / Matcon Civil Joint Venture (TMJV) and the South Coast Conservation Program (SCCP) are pleased to announce the commencement of their new conservation partnership, and the award of Federal Aboriginal Fund for Species at Risk funding for their first project “Addressing conservation knowledge and expertise gaps for the People of the Salish Sea.”
The focus of this partnership is work that integrates species at risk conservation and traditional knowledge as a value added component to long-term social and economic development opportunities.
The goal of the first project is to build capacity and expertise in respect to native plants and species at risk, and the threats to our native species such as those presented by invasive plants, and to deliver a community directed habitat restoration project.
The project administrative lead is Gary Reith, NmTC Chief Administrative Officer, while project deliverables will be led by Nicci Bergunder, TMJV Project Manager and First Nations Liaison, and Pamela Zevit, RPBio, SCCP Program Coordinator.
The project partners look forward to engaging community members and traditional knowledge leaders within our region to achieve the benefits envisioned through this project. If you would like to learn more about this unique partnership and our works please contact:
