Snuneymuxw First Nation’s multi-use use gymnasium building is substantially completed, but is not yet open to the community except for the store.

In a notice to members just before Christmas, the nation said: “There are significant and minor things that must be completed prior to using the new facility.”

Chief John Wesley said an opening ceremony was being planned. But before that happens, equipment must be purchased and staff need to be in place and trained to allow for safe operation of the facility.

The members’ notice said: “While the construction is complete, it is important to note that the building itself is just a “shell” with no equipment or supplies for it to be operational at this time.”
